An official Census 2011 detail of Chatra, a district of Jharkhand has been released by Directorate of Census Operations in Jharkhand. Enumeration of key persons was also done by census officials in Chatra District of Jharkhand.

In 2011, Chatra had population of 1,042,886 of which male and female were 533,935 and 508,951 respectively. In 2001 census, Chatra had a population of 791,434 of which males were 404,067 and remaining 387,367 were females. Chatra District population constituted 3.16 percent of total Maharashtra population. In 2001 census, this figure for Chatra District was at 2.94 percent of Maharashtra population.

There was change of 31.77 percent in the population compared to population as per 2001. In the previous census of India 2001, Chatra District recorded increase of 29.51 percent to its population compared to 1991.

In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected for all districts including Chatra. There were total 195,321 children under age of 0-6 against 166,367 of 2001 census. Of total 195,321 male and female were 99,312 and 96,009 respectively. Child Sex Ratio as per census 2011 was 967 compared to 975 of census 2001.
